Texas researcher discovers underground railroads in Louisiana

SHREVEPORT, La. — A researcher has traced slave escape routes in Louisiana, including routes to freedom that went through the Shreveport and Natchitoches areas. Rolonda Teal, a Houston-based professor and researcher, says she’s been discovering underground railroad materials for over 20 years. Her research dates back to the 1840s. The most interesting discovery was learning Louisiana slaves sought refuge in Texas.
