SHREVEPORT, La. – Tensions in Shreveport’s black community erupted into chaos on the night of Sept. 21, 1988, as a riot swept through the Cedar Grove neighborhood. What began as an undercurrent of frustration at the outcome of a court proceeding earlier in the day, spiraled into violence when a second black male was shot, this time outside a convenience store.
