SHV1 Amazon Fulfillment Center is officially open

SHREVEPORT, La. ( KTAL/KMSS )—SHV1, named after the Shreveport airport, is an Amazon robotics facility. The Amazon team, along with economic leaders and community stakeholders, held a ceremonial ribbon cutting.

“This facility has five floors and spans a little over 2.5 million square feet. Just to put it in perspective, that’s a little over 55 football fields,” said Abhishek Gowrishankar, general manager of SHV1.

SHV1 is considered a “first mile” in that items from several sellers are stored in inventory, put online for purchase on Amazon, and items bought are packaged and sent to the second touch point.

The facility employs 1,000 people and will soon be shipping more than seven million units a week.
