Abandon apartment catches fire over the weekend. Shreveport Fire Department reports

Another abandoned apartment complex has gone up in flames in Shreveport.

Oak Meadows Apartments in the 1900 block of Centenary Boulevard caught fire over the weekend, resulting in more than 30 firefighters working to bring the fire under control.

Shreveport Fire Department received reports of flames and smoke coming from a downstairs apartment unit at Oak Meadows Apartments about 6 a.m. Nov. 10.

Upon arrival, firefighters vented the apartment unit with a chainsaw from the roof. After more than 15 minutes, the fire was placed under control with no injuries reported.

According to the fire department, as the winter months approach and cooler temperatures arrive the fire department responds to an increased number of fire incidents.

“The community is urged to practice good situational awareness when it comes to abandoned and adjudicated properties in their neighborhoods,” SFD said in the release. “If you see suspicious activities, report it to the authorities immediately. By securing these properties and reporting any unauthorized access, you can potentially help prevent these fires from occurring and keep the community safe.”
