Shreveport mayor expected to have elective surgery, council chair to serve as mayor pro temp

Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux is expected to undergo elective hip replacement surgery on Friday.

According to a news release from Communications Director Leigh-Anne Evensky, the mayor has suffered from hip pain for a number of weeks and expects to make a full recovery.

Arceneaux will be focused on his recovery for 48 to 72 hours and expects to resume his duties at that time.

Arceneaux reached out to members of the Shreveport City Council to inform them of the procedure, the news release said. During the post-procedure period, Council Chairman Alan Jackson will act as mayor pro tempore in accordance with the City Charter.

The Office of the Mayor will continue without interruption under the leadership of senior staff, according to the news release. Arceneaux expressed his gratitude to the people of Shreveport for their support and understanding.

“He looks forward to resuming his full schedule as possible and continue his work on behalf of the city,” the release said.

For any urgent matters during this period, residents should contact the Mayor’s Office at (318) 673-5010.
