Local king cake hot spot re-opens days before the start of Mardi Gras season

With mere days until the start of Mardi Gras season, a local bakery hosted a ribbon cutting and grand re-opening on Thursday, Jan. 2.

Lilah’s Bakery, located at 1718 Centenary Blvd., known for its iconic King Cakes, re-opened Thursday after being closed for a year for bakery improvements.

The new improvements will allow the bakery facility to produce more King Cakes this festival season. Lisa Tikes, owner of Lilah’s Bakery, said, “We’ve opened up into some larger rooms, and we have more room for more equipment, more employees, and we can increase production.”

Tikes continued by saying that in the last three years, Lilah’s Bakery has made about 22,000 King Cakes yearly. Tikes said, “We’re stuck at 22,000 King Cakes because we just didn’t have the room to have full production.”

Lilah’s Bakery has been serving the Shreveport-Bossier area since 2006 and has expanded to shipping across the U.S. This new space added to the bakery ensures that the 25 staff can efficiently produce 800 cakes per day.
