Winter weather ending, VERY COLD Friday night

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Our winter weather will end in the ArkLaTex this morning as the last round of freezing rain and snow flurries will dry up by 9 or 10 a.m. We could see a lot of ice on the roads tonight and Saturday morning as bitter-cold temperatures will freeze any slush or standing water overnight.

Expect a chilly and breezy day. Once the precipitation wraps up a breezy north wind of 10 to 15 miles per hour will kick in. Highs will be above freezing, but only in the mid to upper 30s, with a wind chill in the 20s and low 30s. Keep the heavy winter coats on today and tonight. Skies will remain mostly cloudy to overcast through sunset.

Areas along Highway 70 in Oklahoma and Arkansas, including McCurtain, Howard, and Sevier counties have reported some snow totals in the 6 to 10 inch range. The snowpack will result in bitter cold temperatures across the ArkLaTex tonight with lows in the teens and 20s. Any slush/snow and standing water will refreeze overnight. Black ice and possibly freezing fog will bring slick bridges, overpasses, and roadways Saturday morning.

The snow and ice will melt over the weekend. The sun will be out on Saturday with a chilly day with highs in the 40s. We will be in the mid to upper 50s on Sunday with partly cloudy skies…
