Man pleads guilty to deadly shooting in Shreveport; judge issues sentence

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – A 23-year-old Shreveport man has pleaded guilty to a deadly shooting, the Caddo Parish District Attorney’s Office announced Monday, March 10.

Early Monday, Datavious Simmons, 23, pleaded guilty to manslaughter in connection with the deadly 2021 shooting, the DA says. He entered the plea just as his trial was set to start in Caddo District Court. As a result of his plea, Simmons was immediately sentenced to 18 years in prison.

The DA says back on June 26, 2021, Simmons was riding in a car from which shots were fired at the victim, Keshun Cole, 20. It happened at the intersection of Union Avenue and 62nd Street in Shreveport’s Cedar Grove neighborhood. One of the shots hit Cole. He died at the hospital a short time later…
