The Shreveport area sees a lot of crazy weather. Occasionally, we get scorching droughts, but more often than not, we get seemingly never-ending rainfall from time to time. That rainfall is great news for the plant life in the 318, but it’s also why our yards feel like they grow overnight and then stay stagnant for weeks after.
As spring rolls through and more rain falls regularly, plenty of people will roll out the lawn mowers and start the weed whackers. With yard equipment comes noise, and noise isn’t just something your neighbors might groan over, but if you start up that mower a little too early, you might be groaning in cuffs.
When Is It Illegal To Start Mowing In Shreveport?
In Shreveport, the noise laws of the city have exceptions for mowing the lawn. No matter how loud your lawn equipment is, you can mow the lawn between 7 AM and 7 PM during the work week.
Before 7 AM on any day, it is illegal to operate lawn equipment in the city unless it gets louder than 50 decibels. (Most lawn mowers are around 85-100 decibles).
The cutoff time for lawn equipment is at 7 PM during the week, but during federal holidays and weekends, the deadline is pushed back by one hour to 8 PM. Though you are allowed to use lawn equipment starting at 7 AM, between 7 AM and 8 AM, you can only use your lawn equipment as long as it isn’t loud enough to be “plainly audible” at a neighbor’s property line…
