Shreveport to make ‘major’ improvements to water system after second F grade in a row

SHREVEPORT, La. (KSLA) – The City of Shreveport is looking to make some major upgrades to its water system after receiving an F grade on its statewide report from the Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) for the second year in a row.

“Most of the points we lost were due to infrastructure issues,” said William Daniel, director of the Shreveport Department of Water & Sewerage. “However, some of the grade was also impacted by manganese-related concerns.”

City officials say the F grade does not mean the water is unsafe to drink. Officials do say that a winter freeze and discoloration from manganese triggered some treatment technique violations, however, testing confirmed that microbial and chemical levels were still within safe standards…
