Shreveport opens new shooting range for officer training

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—The Shreveport police academy cut the ribbon on a new, state-of-the-art, two-million-dollar shooting range thanks to voters’ approval of a 2021 bond. Police Chief Wayne Smith said, “The bond committee recognized how great a need we had for a modern, up-to-date facility.” The old facility was unusable because of HVAC problems and the possibility of officers being exposed to lead.

Multiple officers can use the range at once, with each having control of distance settings and scenarios. The targets can remain still or be made to move and turn side to side…
