Friday weather: Warmer as rain threat decreases

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – Showers and thunderstorms with more heavy rain returned to the north and eastern part of the ArkLaTex on Thursday and have decreased. Expect a warmer day on Friday as the greatest threat of rain continues to shift to the north and east.

Friday temperatures: The break from the typical summer heat that we received on Thursday will not last very long. Friday will begin with lows pretty close to normal in the 60s and lower 70s. Daytime highs Friday afternoon with be much warmer as we soar back into the mid to upper 80s.

The umbrella may catch a break: Futurecast shows some scattered showers will be possible around parts of the ArkLaTex on Thursday night. It also shows numerous scattered showers and thunderstorms developing during the day on Friday. This may be a bit too optimistic. Most hi-res models suggest that the coverage of any rain on Friday will be much more isolated, with the more widespread showers and thunderstorms occurring to the north and east of our area. Either way, we will not see as much rain on Friday as we saw on Wednesday.

When will the rain end? The chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms will continue through the weekend before decreasing and ending by the middle of next week. We will begin an extended period of dry weather that could last through the rest of next week. Highs over the next few days will be a little below normal in the mid to upper 80s. They will warm into the middle 90s by the middle of next week. Overnight lows will eventually settle into the low to middle 70s…
