SHREVEPORT — Shreveport is home to championship boxing this weekend with Sam’s Town set to host 11 bouts. Two of those fights are for championships, including the NABA North American Welterweight Championship, which will be fought for by Shreveport’s very own, Blake Franklin.
“I’m looking forward to stepping in the ring at home. It’s like a home game for me, ” Franklin said. “I’m fighting somebody from Argentina, a tough, grizzled veteran, a former champion, fighting for the WBA/NABA welterweight title. It’s fighting somebody from a different country, it’s in my hometown, I need everybody here in supporting and yelling because it’s going to be a fun time. It’s going to be a hard fight. And I’m more than ready.”
Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux, said, “It’s a really full card, so if you want to see the wide range of boxing, this is going to be the place to be on Saturday. So it’s a great opportunity to grow some local fighters and maybe create some additional interest in boxing in the Shreveport area.”…
