Caddo DA attributes lower truancy numbers to community involvement

SHREVEPORT, La. – Truancy rates in Caddo Parish are on the decline due to a collaborative effort between law enforcement, schools and local nonprofits according to District Attorney James Stewart.

Stewart says truancy numbers have significantly improved during the 2024–2025 school year.

Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the parish reported only 382 truant students. That number spiked to more than 3,400 the following year…
