‘Mafioso-tactics’ or ‘meritless’? Bossier City considering closed-door meeting on lawsuits

Bossier City and several of its officials are accused of orchestrating “a regime of fear and intimidation through Mafioso-tactics” by a local business in a lawsuit open in federal court.

The case is one of two pending federal lawsuits accusing the city of violating the U.S. Constitution, both of which may be the subject of a closed-door discussion on Wednesday at 11 a.m. during a special meeting of the City Council, if the council votes to discuss them.

The other lawsuit, which was dismissed in District Court but is open on appeal, alleges the city violated a resident’s First Amendment right to free speech and the state’s Open Meetings Law with overly-restrictive decorum rules and a backroom meeting to discuss limiting public input on City Council agenda items, according to the complaint…
