It took John B. Johnson longer than most witnesses to make his way from the back of Caddo District Judge Donald Hathaway’s courtroom to the witness stand Tuesday afternoon, but once he made it there, he enthralled jury members and onlookers alike.
The man, 77, delivered powerful testimony for the prosecution in the second-degree murder trial of Donald Dewayne White, now 32, charged with shooting John, his wife Joan and daughter Jasmine Johnson. The incident caused the death of the two women, 70 and 29, respectively.
Jasmine, 29, was the defendant’s ex-girlfriend, and they were, together, the parents of three children, also in the residence at the time of the shooting. John said he awoke to a disturbance, first saw his wife Joan, 70, head bloodied and lying near their bathroom door. Then he saw White, who he said turned the gun toward him…
