Bozz Baucum, who recently sold the popular Marilynn’s Place restaurant in South Highlands, is finally able to take the afternoon naps that he enjoys. Those nap days are numbered.
In about a month, Baucum will be “heading out to sea,” he said laughing. He will actually be plying the inland waters of the Mississippi River on a tugboat hauling barges from New Orleans to Minneapolis. As the chief cook — in fact, the only cook — he will be putting in 12-hour days to keep the crew of ten well fed. His schedule will be 28 days on, 28 off.
The seafaring life for me
This is not Baucum’s first time on the water. His first job was on the giant Norwegian Sky cruise ship where he was one of ship’s complement of 899 crew members who catered to the whims of nearly 1,900 guests.
The kitchen on a ship of that size was impressive, he remembered. “The galley was the size of Pierremont Mall.”…
