This is a story that proves the best things in life often walk right through your door. It starts sad but ends with the happiest smile in Bossier Parish. Meet Segar Ray, the adorable puppy who went from dodging cars on the side of the road to helping locals get back on the road.
I first spotted Segar on the outskirts of Longview, Texas. She was dodging traffic, frantic for food. After spotting her little eyes through the bushes, I eventually coaxed the scared puppy out and brought her home.
A New Bossier Mascot
The miracle happened when I connected with Randy and Carrol Ann Ray, owners of the newly opened Ray’s Tire Barn. They initially volunteered to take Segar to the vet, they had zero intention of raising a puppy while launching a new business! But Segar had other plans.
She immediately went to work with Mrs. Ray and acted as if she belonged there, transforming into the shop’s official, tiny door greeter.
Spreading Joy and Building Community
Let’s be honest: if you’re at a tire shop, you’re probably not having the best day. That’s where Segar comes in! She’s always happy to meet everyone and is often staring out the window, waiting for customers. As the Rays explained, Segar has brought so much unexpected joy into their lives.
“We want people to come in and visit with us,” the Rays shared. “We wanted to build a place where our community feels welcome at all times, not just when they need an oil change.”…
