SPD: 1 in 4 Shreveport homicides began at home

SHREVEPORT, La. – As Domestic Violence Awareness Month closes, police say crime across Shreveport is down — but the most dangerous place for many victims is still inside their own walls.

According to Police Chief Wayne Smith, one in four Shreveport homicides began at home. Smith told City Council members Monday overall crime continues to decline, including homicides, shootings and burglaries, even as domestic violence and deadly crashes rise.

“There is a noticeable decline in our homicide rate,” Smith said, noting this year’s 34 homicides, down from 46 last year. “Over the last three or four years, we’ve been in a constant, noticeable decline.”…
