Gerald Kennedy hurried to close and lock his front door behind him but failed after spotting a man with a gun climbing stairs toward his second-floor apartment on Cross Lake the night of Oct. 27, 1995.
Had he not been shot in the upper right arm along the way, he may have had a better chance of preventing his pursuer from entering the apartment, or he may have had a better chance of successfully using the gun he retrieved from a bedroom, as revealed in court documents.
Instead, his wife, Victoria Catanese Kennedy, 48, died that night at the Villa Del Lago Apartments in Shreveport, shot twice in the head.
