“Let’s take some officers out of an 8 to 5 job and put them in downtown for a little bit,” Shreveport Councilman Grayson Boucher said Tuesday at a special council meeting, after a viral video of a 2 a.m. brawl near the Texas Street Bridge fueled new calls for stronger public safety downtown.
Council members called for increased Shreveport Police Department presence downtown, saying more patrols could help prevent incidents like the viral fight that erupted near the Texas Street Bridge over the past weekend.
“I think the mayor and administration have to look at different things of when it comes to money for you all,” Council Chair Tabitha Taylor told Chief Wayne Smith. “We’re not planning. The council doesn’t make the plans. The council does the allocation where what is there and so from this point and from what some people fail to understand is that this council has a lot of.. a ton of money for public safety. The execution has to come from you all.”…
