The Caddo Commission and the Food Bank of Northwest Louisiana will host drive-thru food box distributions in Shreveport and other parish cities on Saturday.
A $144,000 allocation by the Commission will make possible first-come, first-served food distributions at locations in Shreveport, Keithville and Vivian Nov. 22. The announcement follows recent requests for help from the Food Bank as the effects of the federal government shutdown drive more residents to seek out charity.
“We know that many families in our community are struggling right now, especially with challenges accessing SNAP benefits, the impact of federal furloughs, and the rising costs of food,” Caddo Parish Commission President Stormy Gage-Watts said in a news release. “Providing distribution opportunities, such as the Commission’s event, is a way to offer some immediate relief and ensure that no one in our parish has to face food insecurity alone.”…
