Shreveport to save $2 million by refinancing water bonds

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) – The City of Shreveport is refinancing its water bonds to save money.

City council held a special meeting Thursday morning where members approved a refinancing plan of $190-million for the 20-14, 20-15 water and sewer revenue bonds. City finance attorney Michael Busada said they waited until now to refinance in order to receive a good rate. It is set to save the city about $2-million without an increase in debt services.

“This is just one other step you are taking to help address those concerns. By saving money, by being prudent, by making sure we can get all the costs savings we can,” Busada said.
