Shreveport Leads State of Louisiana for Fatal Crashes

Shreveport police are very concerned about the numbers of fatal car crashes we have seen in our community this year. Chief Wayne Smith says we are also seeing a large number of pedestrians being killed in crashes. In fact, Caddo Parish now leads the state for fatal car crashes.

Here is the most current data from the LSU Center for Analytics and Research.

#1 Caddo Parish Traffic Fatalities in 2025

There have been 46 deaths on our roads so far this year. Of those fatalities, 27 were the drivers, 4 were passengers, 13 were pedestrians and 2 were bicyclists. In all of 2024, there were 42 fatal accidents on the roads in Caddo Parish. We ranked 3rd overall last year.

#2 Orleans Parish Traffic Fatalities in 2025

There have been 45 traffic deaths in the New Orleans area so far this year. Of those fatalities, 20 were the drivers, 4 were passengers, 18 were pedestrians and 3 were bicyclists. There were 60 fatal crashes in Orleans Parish last year, putting that area at #2 in the state.

#2 (tied) East Baton Rouge Traffic Fatalities in 2025

There have been 45 traffic deaths in the New Orleans area so far this year. Of those fatalities, 23 were the drivers, 7 were passengers, 12 were pedestrians. No bicyclists have been killed in Baton Rouge so far this year. There were 66 fatalities on the roads in East Baton Rouge Parish last year, putting that region at #1 in the state for the year.
