Shreveport residents urged to prepare for brief cold snap

SHREVEPORT, La. – A strong but brief cold snap is moving into the ArkLaTex, and Shreveport officials are urging residents to prepare for the temperatures to fall even though it will only be below freezing for a few hours Monday morning.

As temperatures drop, heating systems will be working overtime to keep people warm. Pioneer Comfort Systems owner Michael Smith says the best defense against the cold is making sure your home heater is safe and ready.

“First and foremost is making sure you have a safely operating heating system. We are in a gas heat market. About 75% of the homes we have in the area have gas heating appliances. They could produce a by product that could be harmful to humans like carbon monoxide,” said Smith…
