SHREVEPORT, La. – SporTran has received approval from the Louisiana Apprenticeship Commission to launch a new Registered Apprenticeship Program aimed at training the next generation of skilled transit mechanics.
The program is designed to strengthen the regional workforce and create pathways to long-term, high-demand careers as SporTran transitions to advanced diesel, hybrid and zero-emission technologies.
Local schools, including Caddo Career and Technology Center in Shreveport, are helping prepare students for opportunities like this through hands-on training and industry-based credentials.
Educators say graduates often leave with multiple Automotive Service Excellence credentials, giving them a strong foundation for careers in transportation.
Caddo Career and Technology Center Principal Kenneth Berg said, “We have kids that graduate from here with all 10 automotive service excellence, industry-based credentials. So, that right there would let SporTran know these kids have a serious foundation and they’re ready to move forward.”…
