Krewe of Harambee set to roll through downtown Shreveport Monday afternoon

SHREVEPORT, La. – The Krewe of Harambee will roll through downtown Shreveport Monday afternoon celebrating 26 years and honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Thousands are expected to turn out to watch the colorful floats, local marching bands, cheerleading and dancing squads, businesses, civic, and social organizations, fraternities and sororities.

Shreveport officials advise spectators that roads will close at noon sharp. Attendees should plan to be in place by 11:30 a.m. Public parking is available at 400 Milam Street and 512 Texas Street. Street parking is strictly prohibited along the parade route. The Shreveport Police Department encourages the public to report any suspicious activity to officers stationed along the route. Spectators are encouraged to bring tote bags for parade throws and carry hand sanitizer.

Caddo Parish Sheriff Henry Whitehorn will serve as grand marshal. Prior to being elected sheriff, Whitehorn served as the CEO for the City of Shreveport, U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Louisiana, Shreveport Chief of Police, and Louisiana State Police Superintendent.

Captain Judy Madison and Co-Captain Valarie Jamison will serve along with Ronnie Alexander and Linda Meadows who are this year’s king and queen.
