Last weekend’s Winter Storm Fern has really thrown the Arklatex into a spin for the past week. Thousands in Shreveport Bossier lost power, heavy ice blanketed streets and roads, and businesses and agencies have been closed for several days.
With dangerous road conditions only recently improving, Caddo & Bossier Parish Schools have, understandably, been out all week. Caddo School Superintendent Keith Burton told KEEL News on Thursday, his biggest concern for Friday was “the amount of ice on campuses, especially in shaded walkways, and on top of canopies.”

Burton said his initial plan is to “send Principals and all 12 month employees out to prepare for school on Monday, and leave teachers and students at home Friday.”
The Caddo Parish School Board released the official statement on Thursday afternoon:
FRIDAY OPERATIONS UPDATE
After continued assessment of facilities and operations, students and teachers will not report to school on Friday.
Principals, assistant principals, instructional coordinators, and all 12-month district employees, including custodial and maintenance staff, will be on site to continue repairs, remove ice, and prepare campuses for reopening and for another round of frigid temperatures expected this weekend.…
