Grandmother charged in deaths of grandchildren in Shreveport house fire

SHREVEPORT, La. — Rita Montgomery, 50, has been charged with aggravated arson, two counts of second-degree murder, and several other offenses in connection with the deaths of her two young grandchildren in an October house fire.

Shreveport Fire Chief Clarence Reese said Tuesday that Montgomery and, 45, Alonza Cooksey were arrested Monday after a lengthy, evidence-driven investigation into the blaze at a Milton Street home in Shreveport’s Queensborough neighborhood.
