72 Lafayette-area wrestlers placed in 2026 LHSAA State Wrestling Championship

All the daylong meets, hours on the mat and time put into perfecting their craft led up to Bossier City for the 2026 LHSAA State Wrestling Championships.

Only a few can stand on the podium on the final day of the two-day tournament, signifying them as the best in their respective weight classes. On Feb. 7, 59 male wrestlers and 13 female wrestlers from Lafayette Parish and its surrounding areas did just that after grappling and pinning their way to the top.

Bringing home the big hardware was the St. Thomas More boys wrestling team, which snagged the LHSAA Division II state title for the first time in school history. Leading the Cougars to their first-place finish were Foster Peterson, Jonas Rebstock, Enzo Lopez and Walker Pugh, who all took first in their respective weight classes…
