Shreveport mayor urges residents to support new data centers

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS) — Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux says the overwhelming majority of Shreveport residents support the data centers coming to town, but those in opposition should embrace the centers.

He says concerns from some neighbors about the strain on resources, including water use and higher utility bills, have been addressed, and he does not expect residents to feel a negative impact from the data centers.

The mayor says Shreveport residents should maximize the opportunities tied to the data centers. Arceneaux added that most of the opposition is people who don’t want data centers at all, not just here in Shreveport.

“These data centers are going to be built because we have a seemingly insatiable desire and need for the computing power that comes with that,” said Arceneaux. “Every time you’re doing a search on Google, now it’s using AI.”…
