Caddo Commission attorneys oppose AG’s request to judge to stay hearing

Caddo Commissioners and the parish want a hearing on court costs to go forward after a lawsuit against them was dismissed, even if the state plans to appeal.

Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill this week asked the judge who ruled against her in a lawsuit against the Caddo Commission concerning how they welcomed Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders to Shreveport last year to pause plans to make the state repay defendants. Now the defendants are saying that would be improper.

Murrill took the Caddo Commission and its seven Democrats to court alleging they’d violated the state’s open meeting laws by delivering Sanders a resolution on Commission letterhead welcoming him to Shreveport though no vote had been taken on that resolution. Murrill further alleged when the Commission voted later to “ratify” that resolution, they did so improperly by — as they always do — voting with an electronic system rather than speaking their individual votes aloud…
