BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — An investigation into a married couple accused of illegally receiving SNAP and Medicaid benefits led to their arrest on Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Krystle Garcia, 38, of Benton and Cody Simmons, 39, of Benton, were charged with government benefits fraud and unauthorized use of food stamps.
The Louisiana Department of Health notified Attorney General Liz Murrill’s Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI) about a Medicaid recipient who had underreported her income in order to get SNAP and Medicaid benefits.
LBI said that as the investigation unfolded, agents determined that the Benton woman had not only underreported her household income but also submitted false addresses to LDH and did not disclose that she was married to Simmons…
