Friend from Louisiana recalls messages about missing sailor as husband remains jailed

A Minden, Louisiana man who exchanged Facebook messages with Brian Hooker in the hours after Hooker’s wife vanished at sea says the situation has left him unsettled. Daniel Danforth of Minden, Louisiana, shared the messages he says Hooker sent him describing the night Lynette Hooker disappeared. In one message, Hooker wrote, “The wind blew me away from her and she swam towards the sailboat and we lost sight of each other pretty quickly.” Danforth said the account left him with “a very sick feeling inside.”

Hooker, 59, remains behind bars in the Bahamas after being questioned for three hours Friday in connection with his wife’s disappearance. He initially told authorities the couple’s 8½‑foot dinghy encountered poor weather as they traveled to their sailboat, and that Lynette fell overboard, taking the boat keys with her. It has now been a week since she went missing.

His attorney, Terrel A. Butler, said Hooker “definitely denies causing her death” and continues to ask about her, hoping she will be found…
