One of Montgomery County’s most significant African American historic landmarks will officially reopen to the public later this month following a major restoration effort.
The Pleasant View Reopening Celebration will take place on Saturday, June 20, from 10am to 2pm at the historic site located at 11810 Darnestown Road in Gaithersburg. The event will commemorate the restoration of the 158-year-old property, which includes a church, schoolhouse, and social hall that once served as the heart of a historic Black community.
Organizers describe the reopening as both a celebration and an opportunity to connect with an important chapter of local history. Visitors will have the chance to tour the restored buildings, learn about the site’s significance, and participate in a day of presentations, performances, book signings, health screenings, food trucks, and family-friendly activities…
