Maryland landowners encouraged to become certified tree farmers

ANNAPOLIS, MD—State forestry officials are encouraging Maryland landowners to become certified tree farmers to gain access to resources that support sustainable land management.

The Maryland Forest Service, a co-sponsor of the American Tree Farm System, announced the initiative Wednesday. The national program certifies small, sustainable tree farms and connects woodland owners through educational events and programs.

To be eligible, landowners must own between 10 and 10,000 acres of forestland and maintain a written, active forest management plan.
