Popular butterfly exhibit closing due to heatwave

WHEATON, Md. — As the heat rises, many summertime plans may have to be postponed due to extreme temperatures. Brookside Gardens in Wheaton, Maryland, is home to a popular butterfly experience that features butterflies from all over the world.

The exhibit is a large greenhouse that, on hot days, traps heat and humidity, making the inside of the enclosure at least 10 degrees hotter than it is outside.

Carlos Rodriguez, a Brookside staff member and butterfly expert, says that this could harm visitors who are not accustomed to such temperatures…
