Laurel police mourn K-9’s death after medical emergency

LAUREL, Md. (DC News Now) — Laurel police are mourning the loss of one of its K-9s after he died from a medical emergency while off duty last month.

The Laurel Police Department (LPD) announced on Sunday that K-9 Jak died on June 19 after serving the department since January 2024.

He was a “happy, energetic, and devoted partner” who was loved, the LPD said.

“Jak absolutely loved being at work. Whether he was out on patrol or heading outside for a walk, he approached every day with enthusiasm and heart,” LPD said. “When he wasn’t working, his favorite pastime was playing ball—something that always brought out his joyful spirit.”…
