Paying Tribute to Maryland’s Jewish Food Industry Titans

The other day, I was scrolling through the list of inductees in the Maryland Food Industry Hall of Fame. Established in 2003 by the Maryland Retailers Alliance, the Hall of Fame honors those people who made their mark on the state’s grocery industry.

As a board member and committee member for the Hall of Fame, it’s always an honor to induct those Jewish grocers in our community, past and present.

The Rosh Hashanah season seems like the right time to mention these special Jewish Marylanders who added so much to our chagim throughout the years.

Seeing all the Jewish names on the list made me think about how our community has had so many Jewish grocery industry trendsetters. We attended shul, grocery-shopped and attended Jewish community events with these industry giants, and most of us had no idea…
