Maryland is directing $1.36 million toward programs designed to reduce firearm-related harm, expand community intervention and promote safer firearm storage across the state.
The Maryland Department of Health and Gov. Wes Moore’s administration announced the funding on Sept. 16. The grants will support 17 organizations, including community groups, local health departments and law enforcement agencies.
The funding comes through the Center for Firearm Violence Prevention and Intervention, a state program created to address firearm-related harm through a public health approach. The center works with government agencies and community organizations on prevention, intervention, research and public education.
