Six Month Delay At Center Of Maryland Juvenile Court Appeal

ANNAPOLIS, Md. — The Appellate Court of Maryland has upheld a Prince George’s County juvenile court ruling in a case stemming from an assault and robbery outside Bladensburg High School, issuing a reported opinion that clarifies when Maryland’s 15-day deadline for law enforcement to submit certain juvenile complaints begins.

In an opinion filed September 30, 2026, the appellate court ruled that the 15-day requirement begins when a juvenile has been arrested or detained, not simply when the alleged delinquent act occurs. The court also held that a period before a juvenile is charged, arrested or placed in custody does not trigger Sixth Amendment speedy-trial protections.
