MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Fire officials said an unattended grill likely caused a brush fire near Stedwick Community Center in Montgomery Village on Sunday afternoon.
According to the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service (MCFRS), at about 4 p.m., crews responded to a brush fire in the 10400 block of Stedwick Road. The fire extended to the 19400 block of Dunbridge Way.
In an update just after 5 p.m., first responders said crews had quickly contained the fire and were working on a few ‘hot spots.’

MCFRS spokesperson Pete Piringer said the brush fire impacted about an acre of land and was likely caused by an unattended grill located behind some townhouses. Piringer also noted that once the fire ignited, it quickly spread to brush and ground debris, leaves and trees.
The fire also damaged some nearby power lines.
