Performers Stage Protest at Kennedy Center

About half an hour into their show on The Kennedy Center’s Millenium Stage, Nora Brown, performing with Stephanie Coleman stopped to say, “We have to add a little something to the stage.”

The two then reached behind their chairs to pull out large cardboard signs that read “REINSTATE QUEER PROGRAMMING” and “CREATIVITY AT THE KENNEDY CENTER MUST NOT BE SUPPRESSED” –to loud applause.

They then played “The Unicorn,” by country/psychedelic artist Peter Grudzien, whom Brown said was one of the first country artists to come out as a gay man. “It feels like a fitting one to play,” Brown said…
