Dozens of fired federal workers in need of food assistance

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Nonprofit groups So What Else? and The Upcounty Hub say they’re seeing more and more federal workers who lost their jobs coming to food distribution sites. They said they noticed an increased need for food assistance once federal job cuts began in January.

“We’ve seen a huge number of clients, especially new clients,” Chris Yonushonis, deputy director for hunger relief at So What Else? said.

Yonushonis says the group serves more than 2,500 families per week to meet their food needs. Since federal workers started losing their jobs, the organization has felt the impact…
