Police: Multiple people struck by car on U Street, 7 hospitalized

WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) said one person is in custody following a collision on U Street that left seven people hospitalized overnight.

At around 1:15 a.m., the driver of an Audi A5 was driving recklessly and lost control of his vehicle on U Street, striking a pedestrian, a utility pole and a metal trash can, investigators said.

The vehicle’s impact with the trash can hurt additional people who were on the sidewalk.
