One Person and a Dog Rescued From House Fire Tuesday Afternoon

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a reported incident at 100 Claybrook Drive near Fair Oak Drive in the Silver Spring/Kemp Mill area.

MCFRS Chief spokesperson Pete Piringer shared reports of heavy smoke in the hallway of a two-story single-family residence. Initial information indicated that an occupant and pets were trapped inside the home. Multiple apparatus were dispatched, including units PE716, PE718, PE712, PE701, PE719, T716, AT718, RS742B, A742B, BC701, and BC704.

At 1:50 p.m., an update confirmed that an occupant trapped on the second floor was removed via a ladder from the second-floor balcony. A fire in the basement, described as originating in the kitchen, was present with heavy smoke conditions throughout the building. Firefighters reported that the fire was being attacked with water in the basement, and efforts were underway to determine if the fire had extended beyond the initial area.
