PGPD cop acquitted in shooting death of William Green pleads guilty in federal fraud case

GREENBELT, Md. (7News) — Two former Maryland police officers, including one who was acquitted in the shooting death of William Green, pleaded guilty in an auto insurance fraud scheme, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Maryland.

Michael Anthony Owen, Jr., 36, of Accokeek, Maryland, pled guilty to falsification of records, and Jaron Earl Taylor, 31, of Ft. Washington, Md., pled guilty to conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Owen, Jr., who has previously been charged with murder in the death of William Green, who was handcuffed when he was shot to death in January 2020. Owen was a 10-year PGPD veteran who had been suspended without pay since January 2020, according to a PGPD statement. He was later acquitted in Green’s death…
