Wawa Prepares to Replace 7-Eleven

Burtonsville bid farewell to its 7-Eleven, located at 15585 Old Columbia Pike, this past spring. The building is set to be demolished as part of the plans for Wawa to open its second Montgomery County location on the current site of 7-Eleven and the adjacent Mattress and More Liquidators (15595 Old Columbia Pike). A representative from Mattress and More Liquidators shared with us that the store is expected to close in October.

In November 2023, we let you know of plans to bring Wawa to Burtonsville. The construction plans were approved in January and with 7-Eleven’s closure, the ball is rolling towards the construction of the new gas station and convenience store that also offers made-to-order food. The initial development application for Wawa was accepted by Montgomery Planning on Tuesday, November 21st 2023. On June 26, 2024, Dong Ya, LLC and Hong Cheng LLC (“Applicant”) filed Preliminary Plan No. 120240160, Site Plan No. 820240170, and Forest Conservation Plan No. F20240210 (“Project”).

The county’s first Wawa opened in March 2024 in Gaithersburg. Plans for that location materialized in early 2019, but Wawa didn’t open until approximately five years. Demolition could begin as early as late 2025, but specific dates for construction and opening timeframes are not yet available for the Burtonsville location and there is plenty of work to do after Mattress and More Liquidators closes.
