A slew of new laws are about to hit the books in a major U.S. state starting Oct. 1, cracking down on drivers who exceed the speed limit by 40 miles per hour or more.
These changes center around the use of speed cameras. Landline Media reported that Maryland Governor Wes Moore inked new legislation affecting speed camera usage statewide. In an effort to curb speeding drivers, cameras can now be deployed in various counties, highway work zones and municipalities.
While some areas cap the fine for speeding violations at $40, since 2024 work zone violations have seen graduated fines. This comes as Florida drivers face a hefty $5,000 fine for a new ‘light law’ kicking off October 1.

The new regulation is set to roll out graduated fines for speeding violations. This will include $40 for going over the limit by 12 to 15 mph and skyrocketing to $425 for exceeding the limit by 40 mph or more…
