At a press conference in Wheaton, Montgomery County and state leaders announced that two new speed enforcement laws will take effect October 1, introducing higher fines for drivers traveling 16 miles per hour or more above the speed limit and allowing automated cameras on high-crash roadways.
Officials said the measures are part of the Vision Zero initiative to reduce serious and fatal crashes by targeting dangerous speeding and expanding proven safety tools.
